This region of Makarska Riviera is featuring several interesting tourist hotspots and one of them that is definitely worth visiting is Podgora. Even though it is believed that Podgora has existed for several hundred years, the first written source that confirms the existence of Podgora dates back to the middle of the 19th century. Back then, Podgora was a small fishing village and one of the stops for traders that were conducting business in the Adriatic Sea. The reason why Podgora was mentioned is the fact that this is the place where Don Mihovil Pavlinovic was born. He was a famous Croatian politician, priest, and writer.
It is interesting that organized tourism in Podgora started in 1922 making it one of the first places of this kind in Croatia. This was the year when the first hotel in Podgora was built. During the Second World War, Podgora was an important place for the partisans who fought the oppressors. This is where the Partisan Navy was formed. Brac Island

It is situated west of Podgora and you can easily find boat tours that will take you there (and bring you back). Brac Island is known for the incredible shiny white stones, extraordinary wines, and tasty cuisine. Of course, this is the home of one of the most famous beaches in Europe – Zlatni Rat.
Biokovo Nature Park
Biokovo Nature Park is one of the eleven parks of this kind in Croatia. As the name suggests, it covers the mountain range of Biokovo nestled right above Makarska Riviera. A wide range of animals including turtles, snakes, lizards and many different birds like bats, shrews, and eagles live in this park. There are also over 1500 different types of plants found in this park. Every year, more than 50,000 domestic and foreign visitors explore Biokovo Nature Park. The authorities are currently working on a project that will make this place even more popular.
